Computerised Aboriginal Sites Register
Sites identification training and Trial version available

Koori flagKoori flag At last a computer program purpose-built to record Aboriginal sites and store site maps. The program has been tested and developed at Forster Local Aboriginal Land Council.

It allows the user to quickly retrieve and report on all sites in your area, categorising them in any way that you see fit- you decide the categories. Powerful search and retrieve features allow you to easily find groups of sites. It allows you to record site notes for each site and even to search through all your notes looking for some key word.

As an added bonus you can also record Aboriginal words and their english meanings, then search for a word.

Maps: Maps, site diagrams, even photos can be stored on the computer and associated with each site for easy reference. View and Zoom in on a map right from the program. The Windows Paintbrush program can be used to draw such maps or to edit existing map files. If you have an existing map that you want to put on the computer, and you do not have a computer scanner, you can Fax your maps to us and we will return them to you on disk for use on the program (a charge applies for each map), please ring first to find out how to get the best results. Any BMP files you want to use, must be in the same directory as the sites program.

Site Notes: The sites register program allows you to associate a notepad style history card with each site you record. These notes can have any text you want in them. They are not structured in anyway. You also have the ability to search through each of the notepads looking for some keyword. This is very handy for tracking down a site detail you know is there, but can't remember where you put it. The limit on each notepad is 65,500 characters or letters.

Flexability: Sites Register uses dBase III plus compatible files, which means you can access its information from any recognised database or spreadsheet program (including Works, Access, Filemaker, Word for Windows, Lotus, Excel and many others), and create your own customised reports and printouts. Maps are kept in BMP format, which is a universal graphic format used by Windows programs, (though Sites Register does NOT require Windows to work).

Price: $660 inc GST - demonstration version available.

Hardware minimum: IBM compatible 486 computer with 2Mb RAM, DOS 3.3 or higher and at least 10Mb of harddisk space (more if many maps are to be archived). An ex-government Pentium computer that readily fills this need can be bought from us for as little as $480, click here to find out more. Does not require Windows or a scanner. An Epson or HP compatible printer is desirable.

Full training available

Training in the use of the program and NSWALC approved training in sites identification, and sites recording, by Aboriginal trainers can also be arranged.

Trial version available

The trial version is designed to allow you to test out the program to see if it suits your needs. It is the complete program but with some built-in limits. You are limited to just 20 sites, and 20 aboriginal words.

The program comes with 10 example sites, and one map. You can either change these ten so they are your own and/or add a further 10 of your own.

There is just one map on your trial disk. You may however put into the program as many maps as you wish. In fact any computer graphic file in BMP format can be viewed by the program.

Help: Should you require any help at all during the installation or in the use of the program or if there is anything that you would like explained or you have any query, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0265 51 0966. Telephone support is free to both trial users and registered owners of the program. Note however, that telephone charges are at your expense. If we are not here when you call, leave a message that you require support and we will fax you back to say we are available to receive your call.

Your wish list: The sites register is still being developed. As such you have a unique opportunity to have the program tailored to meet your needs. If there is something you would like to see in the program, or if it does not work as you expected, please contact us and offer your opinion.
